Canagan Salmon Biscuit Bakes – 150g

Biscuit Bakes are hard-baked biscuits rather than soft treats, and the salmon version runs at 40% salmon with chickpea at 25% and sweet potato at 22% making up the body. They are baked in wood-fired ovens, and the resulting biscuit is dry and brittle enough to snap into halves and quarters for training.

Two things are built into the recipe beyond the fish: sodium hexametaphosphate at 5,000 mg/kg, which binds salivary calcium and slows tartar forming on the tooth surface, and glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM at 1,000 mg/kg each. This is a complementary treat, not a meal — it is fed alongside a complete food.

Performance & Benefits
  • 40% salmon, with chickpea at 25% and sweet potato at 22% instead of cereal.
  • Sodium hexametaphosphate at 5,000 mg/kg for tartar control.
  • Glucosamine 1,000 mg/kg, chondroitin 1,000 mg/kg and MSM 1,000 mg/kg.
  • Crude protein 33%, crude fat 12%, omega 3 1.65% and omega 6 2%.
  • Mixed herbs at 2% — oregano, basil, marjoram and thyme — with linseed at 2%.
  • Hard baked, so the biscuit snaps cleanly into smaller training-sized pieces.
<>
Suitable For
  • Reward and training work with adult dogs and puppies.
  • Dogs that prefer a crunchy biscuit to a soft, meaty treat.
  • Dogs on a grain-free diet whose treats need to match.
  • Owners wanting a treat that does something for teeth as well as behaviour.
  • Not a treat for a dog with a sore mouth or few teeth — Canagan Salmon Softies 200g are the soft-textured alternative in the same flavour.
<>
Feeding
  • A complementary treat, fed alongside a complete and balanced food. Canagan publish no gram-per-day allowance for Biscuit Bakes.
  • As a working rule of ours rather than Canagan's, keep all treats to roughly a tenth of the day's food and take the difference off the meal.
  • Snap the biscuits down for a small dog or for repetitive training, rather than feeding whole.
  • Keep fresh drinking water available, and reseal the bag between uses.

Composition & Analysis
  • Composition: salmon (40%), chickpea (25%), sweet potato (22%), rapeseed oil, mixed herbs (2%, including oregano, basil, marjoram and thyme), linseed (2%), sodium hexametaphosphate (5,000 mg/kg), glucosamine (1,000 mg/kg), chondroitin (1,000 mg/kg), MSM (1,000 mg/kg).
  • Analytical constituents: crude protein 33%, crude fat 12%, crude fibre 4%, crude ash 10%, omega 6 2%, omega 3 1.65%.
  • 150g bag. Canagan also sell the same biscuit in a case of eight 150g bags.
  • Listings including our own earlier copy have named tetrapotassium pyrophosphate, yucca extract and devil's claw in this recipe, with a slightly different analysis. Canagan's published composition contains none of those three, and the tartar-control ingredient is sodium hexametaphosphate. The figures above are Canagan's.
