Canagan Small Breed Light/Senior Dry Dog Food – 2kg

This is Canagan's newest addition to the dry range: the Light/Senior chicken recipe pressed into the small-breed kibble. The formula is identical to the standard Light/Senior — 27% freshly prepared free-range chicken, 27% dried chicken, 34% protein against 14% fat — but the piece is small enough for a terrier or a toy breed to chew properly rather than bolt whole.

The feeding table is the other reason to choose it. Canagan chart it from 3kg bodyweight upward, where the all-breed Light/Senior table starts at 5kg, so a 3kg dog gets a stated 50g a day rather than a guess. At 2kg the bag is about forty days for that dog and a fortnight for a 10kg one.

Performance & Benefits
  • Small-breed kibble size in the Light/Senior formulation.
  • Crude protein 34% with crude fat held at 14%.
  • Glucosamine and MSM at 1,440 mg/kg each, chondroitin sulphate at 1,050 mg/kg.
  • 54% chicken — 27% freshly prepared free-range and 27% dried.
  • Feeding chart begins at 3kg bodyweight, which most adult tables do not cover.
  • Grain free, with sweet potato, potato and peas instead of cereal.
<>
Suitable For
  • Small and toy breeds from about seven years old.
  • Overweight small dogs — the 40g-a-day line for a 3kg dog is a usable starting point.
  • Dogs that swallow standard kibble whole and would benefit from a smaller piece.
  • For adults only. A small-breed puppy needs Canagan Free-Range Chicken Small Breed, not a reduced-calorie food.
  • A dog over about 12kg is better on the all-breed Canagan Free-Run Chicken Light/Senior, which is the same recipe in a larger kibble and a larger bag.
<>
Feeding
  • Senior maintenance from seven years: 50g a day at 3kg bodyweight, 80g at 5kg, 105g at 7kg, 130g at 10kg.
  • Overweight dogs on a reducing ration: 40g at 3kg, 70g at 5kg, 90g at 7kg, 110g at 10kg.
  • Split the daily amount into two meals — at these quantities a single serving looks very small in the bowl.
  • Introduce over a week: a quarter Canagan on day one, half by day three, three-quarters by day five, all of it by day seven.
  • Canagan advise adjusting by 10% up or down and holding the new amount until condition is right.
