The Buffalo Co. Buffalo Paddywack – 100g
Paddywack is the nuchal ligament, the elastic cord that carries a grazing animal's head all day long. Dried, it becomes one of the densest and most sinewy chews available, and it takes a dog a long time to make any impression on it.
It is also the fattiest of The Buffalo Co.'s dried chews at 15%, which is worth knowing if you are watching a dog's weight or feeding a breed prone to pancreatitis. For most dogs that is a non-issue at treat quantities, but it puts paddywack a rung above lung or tripe on richness.
<>Performance & Benefits
- 100g of dried buffalo nuchal ligament, with nothing else in the bag.
- 70% crude protein and 15% crude fat.
- Dense, fibrous, elastic texture that resists a hard chewer for far longer than a soft treat.
- The stringy fibres work between the teeth as the dog pulls at them, helping lift plaque.
- Free-range, grass-fed buffalo, free of artificial additives and preservatives.
- Supplied in fully recyclable packaging.
Suitable For
- Strong, persistent chewers that flatten softer treats in seconds.
- Boredom relief, crate rest and settling a dog while you work.
- Adult dogs of all sizes, given a piece scaled to the dog.
- Dogs avoiding beef, chicken or lamb, since buffalo is a novel protein.
- At 15% fat it is the richest of the range — for a dog on a strict low-fat diet, The Buffalo Co. Buffalo Tripe at 11% or the Buffalo Horn at 3% is the better pick.
Feeding
- Feed as a complementary treat alongside a complete, balanced diet.
- Choose a piece long enough that your dog cannot get the whole of it into its mouth.
- Cut the day's main meal back to allow for the calories in a chew this rich.
- Always provide fresh drinking water, as The Buffalo Co. ask.
- Keep the pack in a cool, dry place once opened.
Composition & Analysis
- Composition: 100% buffalo paddywack.
- Crude protein 70%. Crude fat 15%. Crude ash 4%. Moisture 10%.
- The Buffalo Co. publish no crude fibre or calorie figure for paddywack, so neither is given here.
- The Buffalo Co. list this product in 100g and 1kg packs; this listing is the 100g pack.
- Being a natural ligament, piece length and thickness vary from bag to bag.
Care & Caution
- Paddywack softens and stretches as a dog works at it. Supervise, and take the last few centimetres away before they can be swallowed whole.
- Dense, very chewy treats are a choking risk for a dog that gulps rather than chews.
- At 15% fat, not a sensible treat for a dog with a history of pancreatitis without asking your vet first.
