Westland Boost All Purpose Container Compost – 46L

Boost is Westland's peat-free container compost, and the 46 litre bag fills roughly nine five-litre pots or six twelve-inch hanging baskets — a useful figure when you are working out how many bags a display needs. It is blended specifically for containers rather than for beds, which is why moisture management dominates the formulation.

Two things do that work: water-storing granules that hold moisture in the mix, and a wetting agent that lets a dried-out pot take water again instead of shedding it down the sides. Westland also add West+2 wood fibre to slow down how fast a container dries. Peat-free materials are more porous than peat, so a Boost container still wants checking more often than an old peat pot did.

Performance & Benefits
  • 46 litres — around nine 5L pots or six 12in hanging baskets per bag.
  • Peat-free, blended for containers and baskets rather than for open ground.
  • Moisture Lock water-storing granules hold water in the compost.
  • Added surfactant makes a dried-out container re-wet properly instead of running off.
  • West+2 wood fibre reduces how quickly a pot dries out.
  • Westland claim four times more blooms on bedding when used with their Boost liquid plant feed.
<>
Suitable For
  • Patio pots, tubs, troughs and decorative planters.
  • Hanging baskets and wall baskets.
  • Summer and winter bedding displays.
  • Gardeners moving off peat who have struggled with pots drying out.
  • Not suitable for ericaceous plants — camellias, rhododendrons and blueberries need a lime-free ericaceous compost.
<>
How to Use
  • Rework the compost between your hands first; it compresses in the bag and needs its structure back.
  • Knock plants out of their old pots and shake the loose compost off the root ball.
  • Set each plant in the new container, fill the gaps with Boost and water in well.
  • Test with a finger before watering rather than watering to a routine — peat-free mixes look drier on top than they are underneath.
  • Reseal part-used bags and keep them dry and frost-free.

Specification
  • 46 litre bag. Also sold as a 25L carry pack.
  • Peat-free container compost with Moisture Lock granules, added surfactant and West+2 wood fibre.
  • Fills approximately nine 5L containers or six 12in baskets.
  • Westland publish no NPK analysis or ingredient list for Boost, so none is stated here.
  • Earlier store copy described an added starter feed; Westland's own listing does not mention one, so that claim is not repeated.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Open the bag and fill containers in the open air or a well-ventilated shed, and avoid breathing dust from dry compost.
  • Wear gloves when handling it and wash your hands before eating or drinking.
  • Keep the bag away from weedkillers and other garden chemicals in storage; compost picks up contamination readily.
