Lincoln Large Metal Curry Comb

Despite the name, a metal curry comb is not used on the horse. It is the tool that cleans the body brush: rows of fine metal teeth that the brush is drawn across to pull out the hair, dust and grease it has picked up off the coat.

Lincoln's large version has a wooden handle and enough width to clear a full-size body brush in a couple of strokes. Used properly it is what keeps a body brush working, because a brush loaded with old hair puts grease back on to the coat instead of taking it off.

Performance & Benefits
  • Fine metal teeth strip hair, dust and grease out of a body brush in a stroke or two.
  • Large face clears a full-size brush faster than a small comb does.
  • Wooden handle stays comfortable through a whole yard's worth of brushes.
  • Metal teeth do not soften or clog the way a rubber cleaning pad eventually does.
  • Keeping the brush clean does more for a coat than brushing harder ever will.
<>
Suitable For
  • Cleaning body brushes and dandy brushes during and after grooming.
  • Busy yards grooming several horses in a session.
  • Anyone who has noticed their body brush has stopped lifting grease.
  • Not for use on the horse — the metal teeth are for brush bristles only. For the coat itself use a rubber or plastic curry comb, such as the Lincoln Rubber Curry Comb.
<>
How to Use
  • Hold the comb in your spare hand with the teeth upwards.
  • Draw the body brush firmly across the teeth after every few strokes on the horse.
  • Knock the comb against a wall or the floor to clear the hair out of it.
  • Do that facing away from the horse and out of the wind.
  • Wipe the teeth and handle down at the end of the session and store it dry.
<>
Specification
  • Metal-toothed curry comb with a wooden handle. Large size.
  • Lincoln barcode 5027286043229.
  • Lincoln's own name for this item is the Large Metal Curry Comb. The store title also carries the words “mane tail brush”, which do not describe this tool.
  • Lincoln publish no dimensions, tooth count or weight, so none are stated here.
<>
Care & Caution
  • Not to be used on a horse's skin, mane or tail. The teeth are metal and made for bristles.
  • Knock the hair out away from the horse and away from your own face.
  • Keep it dry. Rusted teeth mark a brush and shed rust into the coat.
  • Store it out of reach of children, and replace it if teeth bend or break off.
